O. Charlene Misener

O. Charlene “Char” Misener, 79, of East Peoria, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2015 at 5:29PM at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, surrounded by her loving family. Char was born on May 21, 1935 to Charles and Vivian Taylor McGrew in Flora. She was previously married to Clarence Rabe, Roy Rennau and Richard Cox. She married Alan H. Misener on August 18, 1979 in Peoria. Together they have celebrated 35 years of marriage. He survives. Also surviving are her children, Michael (Pam) Rabe of Glasford, Patrick Rabe of Bartonville, Douglas (Nancy Whitehurst) Rabe of Bartonville, Patsy Greuter of East Peoria, Jay (Kathy Whittles) Rennau of Creve Coeur, and Tina (Joe) Propst of East Peoria; step-sons, Tod (Cindy) Misener of Oglesby and Derek Misener of Carbondale; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Marion “Bud” (Lois) McGrew of Mackinaw; and one sister, Sandi (Jim) Purtscher of Edwards. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Candy Rabe; and three grandchildren. Char worked in the restaurant, hotel, bar business and in medical offices throughout her life. She previously owned and operated Yesterdays on SW Washington Street in Peoria and Char’s Diner in Bartonville. She last worked at Town & Country Healthcare in Eureka and Brass Key Lounge in East Peoria. She was also a member of Happy Hallow Lake Association and a former member of Heart of Illinois Liquor Association. Char loved camping and vacationing in Florida and Wisconsin. Above all else, Char’s favorite times were spent in the presence of her family and close friends. All knew that whenever Char was around, there was bound to be a vacuum nearby. Memorial contributions may be made to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of OSF Medical Center, 3rd floor, Medical Intermediate Care and to the staff of the hospice home for their upmost care and compassion during their stay. Char was a member of Faith Church in Washington where a funeral service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 11:00AM. Pastor Rick Brisbin will officiate. A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 4:00PM-7:00PM at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. An additional visitation will be held an hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Interment will be at Swan Lake Cemetery in Peoria.
