Janice Lamb

WASHINGTON – Janice J. Lamb, 59, of Washington, died at 1:04 pm Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. Born on June 30, 1948 in Peoria, IL to Dennis and Janice Rahn Sheppard, she married Gregory P. Lamb on August 8, 1970 in Pekin, IL. He survives. Also surviving are 1 son, Patrick Lamb of Washington, IL 2 daughters, Elizabeth J. (John) Howard of Peoria, IL and Christine R. (Adam) Simmons of Peoria Heights, 1 granddaughter, Marilyn Howard, 2 brothers, Donald (Elizabeth) Sheppard of Morton, IL and Dennis (Debbie) Sheppard of South Pekin, IL, 5 sisters, Joyce (Vern) Wambolt of Williamsfield, IL, Mary Sheppard of Washington, IL, Connie (Barry) Johnson of Peoria, IL, Judy (Jack) Stromberger of Washington, IL and Tina (Chris) Miller of Hoover, AL, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. She graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science and Education Degree, specializing in Special Education. She was a Charter Member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She taught special education at Washington Community High School and Metamora Township High School. Janice loved to garden and took great pride in her gardens. She also enjoyed traveling with her family, especially to the Smokey Mountains and to the Ocean at New Smyrna Beach. She was an avid Cubs fan and a NIU Huskies fan. She was also a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. She firmly believed in the strength of the family and family traditions. A special debt of gratitude is owed to the nursing staff, physicians, administrators, housekeeping staff, and therapists at OSF St. Francis Medical Center 5100 Cardiac Care Unit, as well as the caregivers at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria. A funeral mass will be at 10 am Saturday, September 22, 2007 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. Father Joseph P. Donton will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday, September 21, 2007 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria. Memorials may be made to the retirement fund for the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception on Heading Avenue in West Peoria.
