Bob Norman

Robert “Bob”E. Norman, 86, of Peoria, passed away Saturday, Jan 20, 2018, at Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria. Robert was born June 8, 1931, the son of Esker R. Norman and Helen G. (Allgood) Norman. He married Lois Ann Davis in 1951. Together they had Cynthia S. Manasseh of Peoria IL; Robert E. (Lisa) Norman, Jr. of Grand Junction, CO; Theresa M. (Michael) McKee of Plainfield, IL and Daniel A. (Lisa) Norman of Cascade, IA. Robert married Donna J. (Harris) Hardin in 1999 and joined her loving family adding Randy J. (Rayann) Hardin of Mapleton, IL; Terrie L. (Vince) Carton of Delavan, IL ; Susan R. Hughes of Peoria, IL; Nancy J. (Kevin) Nunn of Washington, IL; and Donna M. (Skip) Utzinger of Peoria, IL . He is reverently remembered with love and admiration by all his family including his surviving sister, Janet (Dave) Counterman of Pekin, IL, and a combined 23 grandchildren (+ ten spouses) and 24 great-grandchildren, and he and Donna’s cat, Dallas. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Debra M. Norman; father and mother; sister, Helen M. Davis and brother, Jon S.W. Norman. Bob graduated from Woodruff High School in 1949. He owned and operated Illinois Oil Marketing in Bartonville, IL for 41 years until he sold the company in 1995. He started his company himself and grew it into a trusted team of 15 employees before he retired. Gasoline stations were part of his DNA and if you ever needed directions before GPS he could tell you how to get there by what gas station was on the corner. He very much enjoyed traveling with Donna and together they masterfully created and decorated dozens of miniature dollhouses which they gave away to family, charities, and sometimes people that touched their lives for only a moment. Bob loved spending time with family or friends on vacations or outings. He enjoyed flying, music and most of all he was deeply committed to all his grandchildren and great- grandchildren, always lending a hand, attending an event, giving advice, or just entertaining them. His silly humor and ever smiling face will always be remembered. During his retirement years Bob delighted in always being available to help family or friends. Whether it was meeting the guys at McDonalds in the morning for coffee; building a new work bench and organizing your tools for a work shop; constructing a sidewalk and adding landscaping; or building furniture for a family room, he immensely enjoyed helping others and keeping busy. Visitation will be from 2-3:00pm Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory, 2075 Washington Road, Washington, IL followed by a service at 3:00pm. Cremation rites have been accorded. Bob has positively touched the lives of so many people throughout his life that we would like to give anyone who would like to share an inspirational story time to do so after the brief service. The family was immensely touched by the loving care provided by Apostolic Christian Skylines staff and UnityPoint Hospice Services and wish to extend our deepest gratitude.
