Allan "Al" S. Thannum

Allan “Al” S. Thannum, 88, of East Peoria passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 12:12AM at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was a loving husband and father and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. Al was born on March 30, 1927 in Hayward, WI to James and Karen Johanna Rasmussen Thannum. He married Arline Linsley on May 10, 1958 in Peoria. She survives. They shared 57 years of marriage together. Also surviving are their sons, Mark (Kelly) Thannum of Germantown Hills and Scott (Julie) Thannum of Ft. Worth, TX and five grandchildren, Natalie, Tim (Stephanie), Riley, Madison, and Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard Thannum and Forrest Thannum; and one sister, Elaine Thannum. Al was a graduate of Hayward High School in Wisconsin. He studied at Superior State University and went on to earn his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Industrial Engineering at the University of Wisconsin. He then joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1115 in East Peoria. For 36 years, Al worked as a safety director with LeTourneau-Westinghouse, which later became Komatsu, from which he retired in 1991. Al was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church in East Peoria and a member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Father Grzybowski Council. He was involved in his community, whether he was the Festival of Lights Santa Claus each year or St. Nicholas for his church. He helped each year set up the nativity scene in East Peoria for all to enjoy. He also enjoyed playing golf or spending the day fishing. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Monica food pantry or OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 10:00AM at St. Monica’s Church with a half hour visitation prior to the service. Father Stephen Willard will officiate. There will be a visitation on Friday, June 26, 2015 from 5:00-7:00PM at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria with a recitation of the Rosary at 4:30PM. Entombment will be at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria.
