Robert D. Becker

EAST PEORIA- Robert D. Becker, 80, of East Peoria passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 10:30AM at his residence. He was born February 8, 1935 in Peoria to Walter and Agnes Hawks Becker. He married Janice J. Walker on June 26, 1955 at Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are his children, Douglas (fiancé Gretchen Piper) Becker of Peoria and Lynn Becker of Deer Park; grandchildren, Chad Grimm of Peoria, Kristina Bianchi of Michigan, Joseph Bianchi, Mia Bianchi, and Antonia Bianchi, all of Deer Park; three sisters, Annie (Leo) Sutkus of Montana, Marilyn (Dave) Peacock of Indiana, and Carol Becker of Wisconsin; two brothers, Bruce Becker and Brian Becker, both of Wisconsin; two sister-in-laws, Elaine Walker and Judie Murray, both of Peoria; one brother-in-law, Duane Walker of Florida; his mother-in-law, Janette Walker of East Peoria; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Walter Becker. Robert was a 1957 graduate of Bradley University, earning his Bachelors degree. He then attended Illinois State University to earn his Masters degree in Education. He began his career in 1962 as a teacher then as principal and after 28 years, he retired in 1990 as superintendent of District 86. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years. Robert was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Peoria. He was active throughout his community, serving on East Peoria Rotary Club, East Peoria Jaycees, Peoria Elks Club, and also served as chairman for the Tazewell County Head Start. He loved to attend Bradley University ball games to cheer on his alumni. He always enjoyed his time square dancing with his wife and camping with their children years ago. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Haitian Heart Foundation or St. Paul Lutheran Church of Peoria. There will be a funeral service for Robert on Monday, March 2, 2015 at 10:30AM at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. Pastor Bill Dohle will officiate. There will be a visitation on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 1-3PM at the funeral home and an additional visitation a half hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
