Paul A. Kinsinger , M.D.

WASHINGTON- Paul Aaron Kinsinger, M.D., 58, of Washington passed on February 20, 2016 after a courageous one-year battle with an aggressive brain cancer. He was born December 12, 1957 at Methodist Hospital in Peoria, Illinois to Lawrence and Kathryn (Herm) Kinsinger. He married Amy Ackerman in Peoria on October 18, 1997. Surviving are his wife, daughter Allison Carole, son Adam Owen, brothers Dan (Cheryl) Kinsinger, Malcolm (Debbie) Kinsinger, and Dr. Lee (Laurie) Kinsinger, sister-in-law Betsy Kinsinger and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Kinsinger is also survived by his stepmother Jackie Kinsinger and her children Cyndi, Susan, Clay, Melinda and Cheryl. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Michael Kinsinger. He was a 1976 graduate of Washington High School. He majored in biology at the University of Illinois graduating in 1981. He then attended University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago graduating in 1986. He served his family medical residency at Baylor University in Houston then worked for Group Health in Seattle. Dr. Kinsinger opened Illini Family Medicine, a private primary care medical practice, with his physician brother Lee in 1991. The office was first located in the Cherry Tree Shopping Center in Washington. Paul and Lee developed a large thriving family practice and broke ground on a new building at 201 N. Cummings in 1999 where it stands today. He was a phenomenal physician and diagnostician. He was affectionately known by his patients as “Dr. Paul”. Many of his patients expressed that he cared for them as individuals as well as patients. He practiced medicine until the day of his brain cancer diagnosis on February 20, 2015. He served as medical director of Methodist Medical Center Hospice, Rosewood Nursing Home, Helping Hands Home Health and most recently at Transitions Hospice. He was board certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians and a part-time faculty member of the University of Illinois College of Medicine-Peoria. He grew up in the Calvary Mennonite Church, was a member of First United Methodist Church in Peoria and attended Crossroads Church in Washington since 2009. His Christian faith was an important part of his life and he made it his mission to share his faith with others, often by distributing copies of the book 'Dinner With a Perfect Stranger'. He was a board member of Washington Chamber of Commerce, Washington Historical Society and Washington Community High School where he was an active member during the creation of the community center, which is now Five Points. He was a board member of Central Grade School where he presented his children with their 8th grade diplomas. He was passionate about the future creation of a ring road around the community and the expansion of bike trails in the area. He was a creative thinker, entrepreneur and a self-proclaimed "idea guy." He was widely known throughout the community for his invention of Dr. Paul's Piggy Paste, a product that clears unsightly toe nails. He poured much of his time, energy and resources into this business. The product was distributed nationally in 22,000 retail stores. He enjoyed golf and had a hole-in-one at the Pekin Country Club in 2003. He patiently taught his children to golf when they were in primary school. They are now achieving success on the Washington High School golf teams. He was a loyal fan of the Fighting Illini, and enthusiastic supporter of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He enjoyed watching movies, his favorites being Casablanca, North by Northwest and It's a Wonderful Life. He played the piano and enjoyed listening to classical music and music from the 1960s and 1970s. He especially enjoyed traveling with his family, taking memorable family vacations to Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and 20+ driving trips to Panama City Beach, Florida. The family also took several cross-country Amtrak vacations, the last being one week after his brain cancer diagnosis. Those who knew him personally will remember that when asked how he was doing, he always said he was "incredible," even when he wasn't. The family would like to thank Transitions Hospice for the compassionate care through Dr. Paul's final days. A funeral service for Dr. Paul will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington at 10:00 A.M. Pastor Jason Woolever will officiate. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, from 4:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at the church. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
