M. Elaine Watson-Brown

Martha Elaine Watson-Brown, age 62, passed away while in Intensive Care at OSF in Peoria, Illinois on April 15, 2010 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. An unselfish self-sacrificing wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, she died while being surrounded by family. Elaine was born to Leland H. Watson and Mary Jane (Richards) Watson October 3, 1947 in Charleston, Illinois. Elaine was a 1965 graduate of Charleston High School and received a B.A. in Management from Sangamon State University in Springfield in 1991. Visitation will be held at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, Illinois on Sunday April 18th from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. with a memorial service celebrating her life at 6:00 p.m. She married Bob Brown on August 7th, 1998 in Peoria, Illinois. He survives. Elaine is also survived by two daughters, Mary “Ginny” Scribner of Denver, Colorado and Laural Scribner of Fort Smith, Arkansas; one stepson, Scot Brown of Surprise, Arizona; six grandchildren, Justine, Paris, Vincent, Adrian, Guinevere, and Shamus; three brothers, Walter “Buddy” (Theresa) Watson of Decatur, Illinois, Bob (Patty) Watson of Pennsville, New Jersey, Bryan (Patty) Watson of Ashmore, Illinois; two sisters, Esther (Lonnie) Lutz of Charleston, Illinois, Lori (Eric) Elliott of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; numerous nieces and nephews. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Marcia Watson Carter. Elaine retired from Caterpillar in February of 2009 after nearly 25 years working part time and full time. In Elaine's life family came first. Her adoration of her children and grandchildren was always on her mind. She was a very talented designer and artist and had ability to envision the final result where others could not. Elaine had a passion for old architecture and rendering. Her love of flower gardening and the great outdoors were something that gave her great pride and comfort. She enjoyed nature and it's peacefulness. She loved watching birds, especially wrens. Among other interests of Elaine's were antiques, refinishing old furniture, remodeling, travel, and visiting lighthouses in different parts of the country. Her sense of humor, unselfishness, and her thirst for learning were always present. She loved challenges. To her husband she was a devoted loving partner, supporter, sounding board, co-worker on any project, comforter, and breath of fresh air making his life complete. Elaine will be sorely missed and will leave a very empty feeling in the hearts of those who loved and knew her.
