Goldie B. Paluska

Washington- Goldie B. Paluska, 86, of Washington died at 4:12pm Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Apostolic Christian Restmor of Morton. Goldie was born July 11, 1926 in Ottumwa, IA to John and Viola Finley Schuler. She married R. Thomas Paluska, Sr. on September 7, 1944; he preceded her in death on June 20, 2006. Surviving are three sons, R. Thomas (Bev) Paluska, Jr., of Washington, Glenn Paluska of Carefree, AZ, and Mark (Lori) Paluska, of Ft. Worth, TX; three daughters, Marsha Paluska of Austin, TX, Paula Paluska of Goodfield, and Mary Metcalf of Littleton, CO; two grandsons, Matthew Paluska and Scott (fiancée Tiffany Huber) Paluska; six granddaughters, Marissa Metcalf, Michelle (Scott) Olson, Gina “Antoinette” (Mike) Barclay, Jessica Paluska, Lacey Paluska, and Sasha Paluska; great-grandchildren, Daniel and Grace Sawchuk, Ian and Jamie Olson, and Samuel and Benjamin Paluska; sister, Margaret Demmin, and step-brother Pete (Sylvia) Micca. In addition to her spouse, she was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Maggie Monge Micca Schuler, granddaughter Corrin Paluska, and great-grandson Thomas Sawchuk. She liked to knit, crochet, sew, and design clothing. She also tried her hand at making stained glass, wood carving, and brass rubbing. Other enjoyments were bird watching, growing wildflowers, and traveling. It was very difficult for her to continue in many of those activities after she was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. She participated in many studies to help provide answers for patients suffering from this horrible disease. She was a homemaker and Brownie leader. She was also an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington, where she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society, served on the St. Patrick Parish Council, and the St. Patrick Board of Education. She was also the school’s secretary for many years. Funeral services for Goldie will be held at 10:00am Monday, June 3, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Washington. Visitation will be held from 3:00pm-5:00pm Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory, Washington and from 9:30am-10:00am preceding services Monday. A rosary will be led by the family beginning at 4:45pm Sunday. Entombment will be at Resurrection Mausoleum, Peoria. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sister Mary Anne Educational Fund at St. Patrick School. The family would like to thank her caregivers that allowed her to stay at home for the last several years, and the wonderful staff at Apostolic Christian Restmor.
