Flo Ostanik

Flo Ostanik, 55, of Washington, died at 4:20 PM, on Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL, with her husband and family at her side. Flo was a believer in Jesus and all His promises, a loving wife, a compassionate mother, a dedicated teacher, and a faithful friend. She was born on January 14, 1951 in Peoria, Illinois to Gerald and Bernice (Bour) Kelsch, who preceded her in death. She married Tom Ostanik on August 19, 1972 in Peoria. The couple would have celebrated 34 years of marriage next month. Flo is survived by her husband, Tom; her son, Matt (wife Kate) Ostanik of Dallas Center, IA; two daughters, Monica (fiancé Jeremy Daily) Ostanik, of Mackinaw, IL; Lorraine Ostanik of Washington, IL; one brother, Mark (wife Marlynn) Kelsch of Peoria, IL; her two sisters, Geraldine (husband Harold) Nesbitt of Woodbridge, VA, and Charlene (husband Corwin) Pierson of Peoria, IL, and many friends. She enjoyed a profession that drew on her many strengths, as a fifth grade teacher for District 52, Washington. She loved teaching and every day she spent with her students. Flo was an active member of Faith Christian Centre in Washington, where her faith was nurtured and grew. Before her death she expressed joy at being able to see Jesus in Heaven. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 PM on Sunday, July 9, 2006 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. The funeral service will take place at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 10, 2006 at Faith Christian Centre in Washington, with the Rev. Rick Brisbin officiating. An additional brief visitation will begin at 9:30 AM at the church Monday. Burial will follow the funeral service and will be held at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton, IL. Memorials may be directed to School District 52, Washington, or Faith Christian Centre. Memorials may also be offered to the National Lung Cancer Partnership (www.nationallungcancerpartnership.org, formerly Women Against Lung Cancer), in recognition of Flo’s fight against lung cancer and the particularly devastating effect this disease is having on women and non-smokers such as Flo.
