Douglas M. Hunter

Douglas M. Hunter, 53, of Germantown Hills, IL, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by family, at 2:10 pm on Saturday May 13, 2017. He was born on September 30, 1963 in Peoria, IL to Walter and Patricia Atkinson Hunter. He married Brenda K. Brashers on September 12, 1987 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Peoria, IL. Brenda survives along with their 2 daughters, Krista (Josh) Ralston of Yates City, IL and Ashley (Edmund) Gilgenbach of Cedarburg, WI, his mother; Patricia Driscoll of Peoria, IL, 2 grandchildren; Isla and Dash Gilgenbach, 2 brothers; George Hunter of Pekin, IL and Timothy Hunter of Peoria, IL, 4 sisters; Monica (John) Yard of Farmington, IL, Alicia (Dave) Killam of Eureka, IL, Angela (Scott) Hart of Morton, IL, and Candy Hunter-Heisel of Glasford, IL, and many nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Walter D. Hunter, step-father, Edward V. Driscoll, and his brother, Darrin Hunter. Doug graduated from Manual High School in 1981. He was employed at UPS for 34 years. Doug was a weekly attendee at Riverside Community Church in Peoria, where he loved to learn and grow in his relationship with Christ. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. He was a member of the National Street Rod Association, and enjoyed working on street rods with his friends. Doug loved coaching his daughters and his friends’ children. He was a loving and devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather. Doug was a friend who would drop anything he was doing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. A celebration of Doug’s life will be at 12:30 pm on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Riverside Community Church. Pastor John King will officiate. Memorial visitation will be from 9:30am -12:30 pm Saturday at the church. A meal will follow the services. Please wear grey in honor of Doug Hunter, as May is Brain Cancer Awareness Month. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mark Linder Walk for the Mind (OSF Foundation, Brain Tumor Research), Illinois Cancer Care Foundation, or to OSF Hospice.
