David A. Porter

David A. Porter, 68, of Dunlap, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 1:32P.M. at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Dave was born on November 19, 1947 in Peoria to Chellis “Ted” and Dorothy Wanack Porter. He married Sylvia J. Meredith in East Peoria on February 19, 1972. He later married Joan Wilt Sterosky on June 24, 2006 in Washington. He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Meredith (Eric) Sary of Hanna City, Jacqueline Thomson (Nathan Mahr) of Yates City, and Chris (Sara) Porter of East Peoria; step-children, Nick (Deepika) Sterosky of Mequon, WI, Stacy Sterosky (fiance, Jeff Freund) of Crystal Lake, and Lucas Sterosky of St. Francis, WI; six grandchildren, Evan, Grace, Bradley, Hayden, Lakota, and Sasha; former wife, Sylvia Meredith Porter (fiance, Don Sulaski) of East Peoria; and one uncle, Ted (Jan) Wanack of Peoria. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his aunt and uncle, Dave and Wanda Punches. Dave graduated from Peoria High School and then attended Bradley University. He worked for 40 years at Caterpillar in Morton as a systems analyst, retiring in 2009. In the 60s and early 70s, he was the drummer for The Shags and Flashback, a couple of popular, local bands. More recently, he played in the Praise Band at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington. Dave proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 979 in Bartonville. He loved photography, music and art. Above all else, he cherished and loved his family. He will be truly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington, Bleeding & Clotting Disorders Institute in Peoria, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. There will be a funeral service for Dave on Friday, February 19, 2016 at 11:00AM at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington. Pastor John Bates will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 18, 2016 from 5:00P.M.-7:00P.M. at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. There will be an additional visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
