Clarence V. Parr

Clarence V. Parr, 90, of Eureka, formerly of Lady Lake, FL, passed away at 4:10PM Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka. He was born March 14, 1927 in Peoria, IL to Robert and Lillian Catterall Parr. He married Phyllis Buck on April 6, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church in Peoria. Surviving is his wife Phyllis of 70 years, children, David (Connie) Parr of Oswego, IL and Kathleen (Mark) DeDecker of Washington, IL; grandchildren, Jennifer, David, Beth, Amy, and Ashley; nine great-grandchildren; sister, June (Terry) Reuling of Kahoka, MO; and niece, Beverly (Michael) Stender of Mapleton. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Laurie Henke; sister, Irene Lawless; and a niece, Barbara Lawless. Clarence served in the US Coast Guard during World War II, and went on to graduate from Bradley University. He worked as an accountant at Caterpillar, Inc. traveling to many countries and retiring after 36 years of service. Clarence was very civic-minded, serving on the Bartonville Grade School Board, working in soup kitchens, and delivering meals to the homebound. He was also a faithful, active member of the churches in each community in which he lived. He was president of the congregation at Bethel Lutheran Church in Bartonville, IL, served on the building committee of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Aurora, IL responsible for the construction of the new sanctuary, and was a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church in The Villages, FL serving on the building committee responsible for its construction. Clarence was a devoted caregiver to his wife for many years and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family. A memorial service for Clarence will be held at 11:00am Saturday, April 22, 2017 at St. Marks’ Lutheran Church in Washington. Rev. Richard J. Hanson will officiate. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at Hope Lutheran Church Memorial Gardens in The Villages, FL. Cremation rites have been accorded by Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lutheran Church, The Villages, FL or the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.
