Barbara E. Burns

PEORIA- Barbara E. Burns, 72, of Peoria, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 7:40PM at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. She was born on June 20, 1942 to John F. and Catherine P. (Kramer) Lyle. Her parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters Michelle (David) Hawrysz of Aurora, Illinois and Jennifer (Dr. Rhett) Miller of Washington, Illinois; six grandchildren: Christian, Max, Reese, Noah, Kaitlyn, and Lauren; one sister, Cheryl (Harold) Coakley of Peoria, one brother Hyland (Sue) Lyle of Ocala, Florida; three nieces: Debbie, Kristie, Stephanie; and one nephew: Michael. Barbara was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. She was a Patient Care Manager at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center for 27 years, retiring in November, 2005. She served on the OSF Sisters Healthcare Community Clinic Board from l992 to l999. She also served on the committee that designed the St. Thomas Health & Wellness program. In late fall of 1997 Barbara was designated by ICC faculty/staff as one of 18 “Alumni Who Make A Difference.” In July of 2005 Barbara was inducted into the OSF St. Francis Heritage Hall of Fame, Legend category. In September, 2005 Barbara received the OSF Physicians' Choice Award. Barbara served many years on the OSF Giving Tree Committee. Barbara was a private pilot. She had many interests and hobbies, which included cake decorating, sewing, doll houses (miniatures), and interior design. Her greatest joys in life were her family and her friends, many of whom go back as far as grade school and high school. At Barbara's request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Thomas Church or to a project that was dear to her heart, the Peoria Playhouse Children's Museum, which has joined forces with the Peoria Zoological Society. Donations may be sent to 2520 N.Prospect Rd. Peoria, Il. 61603. A memorial Mass celebrating her life will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 2:00PM. Father Thomas Taylor will officiate. A memorial visitation will be from 12PM-2PM at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
